ROMAN BRONZE ENAMMELLED MILLEFIORI MOUNT

C. 2nd-3rd century AD
A circular enamelled millefiori mount decorated with five concentric circles of green; red and blue enamel with mosaic glass inserts that form a millefiori pattern of squares. This glasswork technique was very popular in Gaul and involved fusing together glass rods of different colours; which would then be cut into cross sections and placed into a metal base to be heated sufficiently in order to bond them.
Majority of enamel still remaining with strong colour and fine detail. Nice example
44mm width x 56mm height
