Bactrian Silvered Bronze Stamp Seal Depicting A Cross

Item Description

C. 2300-2000 BC

An interesting circular, compartmented stamp seal, in the form of a cross with four small circles at the centre, and circles which run along the four arms, which diminish in width towards the edges. It is a flat face and flat back with a u-shape handle, and decorated with grooves to the outer edge of the stamp seal. It is silvered bronze, not as stated on the accompanying letter.

Intact with earthy surface deposits in good condition with nice detail.

Provenance: London Collection in 1990’s, accompanying letter seen by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993.
