Byzantine Terracotta Oil Lamp Decorated With Figure Leading Camel
C. 7th-10th century AD
A Byzantine oil lamp with a pointed handle and decorated with figure leading camel? to both sides of the shoulders. The base is also decorated with a maker’s mark of a six-spoked wheel. The lamp has a large filling hole, surrounded by a ridge, a channel, and a second ridge extending down to the wick hole which is decorated with three pellets.
Intact with chip to handle and ridge otherwise good detail and an interesting piece.
