On 22nd March 1970, a large hoard of Roman bronze follis of the Constantinian period was discovered, in a field adjoining the Fosse Way with the aid of a metal-detector, just south of the village of Bourton-on-the-water, nestled in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England, on a site known to locals as the ‘Money Ground’ due to considerable number of Roman coins had been found over past years. The main part of the hoard consisted of a mass of coins, spherical in shape, totalling 2,707 pieces, concealed beneath flat stones, 45cm below ground level. The shape suggested that the hoard had been buried in a bag.
