Decorated Medieval Miniature Pewter Pilgrim Bell
Item Description
C. 14th century
A miniature pewter bell, similar type to the Canterbury bell, decorated with a dot and zigzag pattern with pellet and finished with a lozenge shaped handle. A split pin was threaded through the eye of the clapper, inserted through a hole punched in the top of the bell and then spayed. These little bells were designed to be worn and suspended round the neck.
Intact and complete with clapper. Although slightly misshapen it is an excellent example.
Ref: Similar example in the Pilgrim Souvenirs And Secular Badges by B. Spencer, page 124, no. 128b.
