Decorated Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp & Maker’s Mark To Base

C. 1st-2nd century AD

A nice Roman oil lamp with a red/brown slip, palm frond decoration in front of the nozzle with raised pellets around the discus border. Single pierced grooved handle with maker’s mark to base of a sandle.

Intact with good detail. Sold with stand.

Provenance:  Ex Museum Ludwig, Cologne. From the collection of Arno Jumpertz, Leverkusen, Germany. 1924-84. Much of the collection was exhibited at Neus museum, 1985.
