Egyptian Blue Faience Shabti

Item Description

C. 1069 – 664 BC – Third Intermediate Period

An Egyptian blue faience shabti with a long beard and wearing a tripartite wig. The shabti stands on a plinth with arms crosses, holding a pick in one hand and hoe in the other.

Shabtis were mummiform funerary figurines, which were placed in ancient Egyptian tombs to act as servants for the deceased in the afterlife. These ‘worker’ Shabtis were often depicted holding tools like hoes and picks for tasks such as farming.

Small chip to side with minor nicks to glaze otherwise nice detail.
