C. 1570-30 BC – New Kingdom to Ptolemaic Period
A pair of restrung Egyptian earrings in they style of Papyrus umbel/clusters. They consist of a selection of blue faience tubular beads, in a triangular form, with small flattened discs in red, yellow and black between. The Egyptians represented the papyrus cluster as a fan shape. The papyrus, which grew in swamps of Lower Egypt, was a heraldic plant of that region.
Faience is a glazed ceramic, produced from quartz or sand crystals mixed with other compounds. It produces vibrant colours and is finished with an alkaline glaze to surface. The Egyptians believe faience represents immortality and rebirth.
