Egyptian Faience Wadj Sceptre Amulet
Item Description
C. 664-332 BC – Late Period
A nice light blue faience Wadj amulet, also known as the Papyrus Sceptre or Papyrus column, is a rolled papyrus scroll, which was thought to give the wearer eternal youth. The Egyptian name Wadj means “green” or “fresh” and the choice of green-blue colour evokes certain qualities which are desirable for both the living and the dead, these are life, vitality, and regenerative power. It is in the shape of a papyrus column, with wide vertical grooves that taper to a point, while the top is perforated for suspension.
Intact with a nice glaze and in very good condition.
