Egyptian Glazed Steatite Scarab Amulet of Thutmose III
Item Description
C. 1479-1425 BC – Dynasty 18 – New Kingdom Period
A green glazed steatite scarab amulet with detailed carvings of anatomical features, to the sides are grooves, representing the legs of the beetle. It is also pierced longitudinally for suspension.
The engravings to base, featuring hieroglyphs that form the throne name of the pharaoh Thutmose III, ‘Menkheperre’ within the cartouche. These hieroglyphs, consist of a circular sun disc to the top, followed by a draughtboard sign ‘men’, and a beetle ‘kheper’. Below the cartouche is a basket sign ‘nb’, meaning ‘Lord, with the feather of ‘Maat’ (ostrich feather) either side of the cartouche, symbolising truth and justice. Above are two Eye’s of Horus representing protection, health, and restoration, with plant at the very top.
Intact and in very good condition with clear carvings and hieroglyphs.
