Egyptian Hardstone Eye Of Horus Inlay
Item Description
C. 664-332 BC – Late to Ptolemaic Period
A black hardstone Eye of Horus inlay, also known as Uzat or ‘Wedjat’, meaning “Whole One”. It represents the healed eye of the god Horus, who was often depicted as a falcon or a man with a falcon’s head. It is a symbol of protection and was used to deflect evil, as well as believed to have healing powers. The Uzat eye’s represent the two eye’s of Horus as he was a sun and moon deity therefore, his right eye was the sun, and the left was the moon.
Small chip to edge otherwise in good condition with some earthy surface deposits.
