Egyptian Steatite Scarab Amulet With Horus As Falcon
Item Description
C. 1390–1352 BC – New Kingdom Period
A fine steatite scarab amulet with detailed carvings of anatomical features, to the sides are incised linear detail, representing the legs of the beetle. It is also pierced longitudinally for suspension.
The engravings to base, featuring hieroglyphs of a plant at the top, with a water ripple ‘n’, flanked by two Horus as falcon wearing the double crown, a symbol of the union of Upper and Lower Egypt. Below is a basket sign ‘nb’, meaning ‘Lord, and other various hieroglyphs.
Minor chips to base edge otherwise fine, crisp hieroglyphs.
