Egyptian Terracotta RARE Tell el-Yahudiyeh Ware Jug

Item Description

C. 1782-1570 BC – Middle Bronze Age / Second Intermediate Period

RARE terracotta Tell El-Yahudiyeh Ware single handle jug, characterised by the punctured design arranged in geometric patterns to the body. It has a grooved handle and short neck with a tapered body leading to a pointed base.

These vases have the shape of a poppy flower seed pod. Some say these were to hold the poppy-seed oil that was used in medicine then and the only known pain-killer.

Chipped rim with earthy surface deposits otherwise a excellent detail and intact. Stand not included.
