European Bronze Age Socketed Axe Head
Item Description
C. 1200-800 BC
A cast bronze socketed axe head decorated with two horizontal ribs either side of the rectangular body, which tapers out towards a slightly curved cutting edge. It was moulded hollow, as the wooden half would have been inserted inside the socket.
Small perforated hole to one side otherwise has a nice patina with some earthy surface deposits.
