Egyptian Faience Amulet of Khnum or Amun-Ra, Fine Example

C. 664-332 BC – Late Period
A fine blue glazed faience amulet of the Egyptian ram-headed deity Khnum or Amun-Ra. He wears a tripartite wig and wears a short kilt, with arms by his side and his fists clenched. It is pieced on the back pillar for suspension and is said to invoke the protection and powers of the deity Khnum, for the benefit of its owner. This amulet would have been worn by the owner and placed on a mummy.
In excellent condition with some earthy surface deposits, a nice blue glaze and fine carvings. Mounted on a detachable wooden stand.
Provenance: Thomas Allworthy (died 1973) thence by decent to the last owner. Allworthy was a collector of antiquity who sold a small number of pieces at Sotheby’s 19th May 1956.
