Greek Apulian Terracotta Red-Figured Lekanis
C. 4th century BC
A red-figured Lekanis and a footed base with a knob handle. The lid is decorated with two profiles of Lady’s of Fashion with a palmette panel between. The Lady’s of Fashion are each wearing stephane with white detailing and their hair bound in a sakkos. There is a knopped finial decorated with a rosette and a band of linear decoration to the rim. The Lekanis was used in antiquity to store soaps and scented perfumes.
Although it is slightly chipped with repaired lid and some of the slip has come off, it has good detail.
