Greek Gnathian Terracotta Thistle Cup

Item Description

C. 4th century BC

A decorative thistle cup with a wide round rim and a bulbous body, decorated with white ovolo motifs to the rim, bordered by incised parallel lines. It is also features a row of orange painted dots, with a band orange and white meander pattern to the neck, between red painted bands. The cup also has a small loop handle and a short foot.

Repair to rim with earthy surface deposits otherwise nice detail and good colour.

Provenance: Ex H. N. Collection, collected in the 1980’s-90’s.
