Greek Terracotta Gnathian Trefoil Oinochoe

C. 4th century BC

A patchy black glazed oinochoe with a single handle, trefoil lip and a bulbous body. The neck is decorated with incised bands, pale orange dots and white ovolo decoration, while the body depicting a grapevine and trendil motif in orange and white slip.

The name Gnathian ware comes from the city of Gnathia which it is named after.

Intact with some earthy surface deposits, good strong colour and nice detail.
