Greek Terracotta Gnathian Trefoil Oinochoe

C. 4th century BC

A fine black metallic glazed oinochoe with a single handle, trefoil lip and a bulbous body. The neck is decorated with incised bands, pale orange dots and white ovolo decoration, while the body depicting a grape vine and trendil motif in orange and white slip.

The name Gnathian ware comes from the city of Gnathia which it is named after.

Small chips to glaze otherwise in very good condition and intact with good strong colour.
