Large Greek South Italian Terracotta Red-Figure Hydria
C. 4th century BC
A beautifully decorated red-figure Hydria with three handles, traditionally used for storing and pouring water. These would have been used at celebrations, banquets and symposia. The central scene depicts a seated woman wearing an elegant chiton and holding a mirror in her left hand and a casket in her right. The reverse is decorated with red painted palmettes and laurel leaves.
Professionally restored from several pieces. Good art work with fine detail.
