Large Roman Bronze Trumpet Brooch With Niello Decoration
Item Description
C. 1st-2nd century AD
A large Roman bronze trumpet brooch with an angled bulbous head, decorated with swirls of niello inlay. The high arched, tapering bow, finely decorated in waves of niello inlay, features a globe to the centre of the body, with a ribbed button either side. The catchplate is decorated with incised linear patterns, with an onion knob final with a nodule to the foot.
Although it has chipped surfaces and pin is bent, a good amount of niello inlay remains with the original pin still intact.
