Medieval Pewter Pilgrim Badge Representing A Ship
Item Description
C. 14th-15th century
An interesting pewter pilgrim badge representing a medieval ship called a cog. It depicts a mask and platforms at either end of the ship (forecastle and aftercastle), with multiple forestays and backstays with overlapping planks. The badge most likely illustrates part of the Life of St Thomas Becket and is associated with his shrine at Canterbury.
Although a little damaged, it is an interesting piece with good detail.
