Order to which the fossil belongs: Aulopiformes
Name of which the family belongs: Sardinoididae

A nice example of the predatory Nematonotus fish from Hjoula, Byblos, Lebanon. As the Nematonotus  matures, it develops a dramatic flag-like dorsal fin extension, hence the generic name longispinus. The genus became extinct during the Cretaceous period.
