C. Late 4th century BC

A nice example of a black glazed Epichysis with a tall, arching loop handle with two lion head finials to base of spout. Epichysis is used for the pouring a small amount of expensive liquids at a time, like perfumes and massage oils, hence the beaked spout. The vessel is modelled in buff light clay with shiny black gloss over the whole surface, and features elaborate geometric and floral decoration. As is typical of Gnathian ware, the decoration comprises of grape bunches and vine tendrils beneath a crimson band.

Some chips to edges otherwise good clear detail with good colour and some light earthy surface deposits.
