Roman Bronze Enamelled Fish/Dolphin Brooch

C. 2nd century AD

A Roman bronze brooch in the form of a fish/dolphin, featuring a recessed body, with traces of dark red, yellow and blue enamel and blue enamel to the eye. The shape of its head is more angled and it has a large pronounced dorsal fin.

In ancient Greece and in the Roman empire, brooches and fibulae would have been used to fasten garments, like togae or cloaks.

Intact with pin missing, but a nice amount of enamel still remaining.
