Roman Glass Double Balsamarium. Fine Example
C. 4th-5th century AD
A beautiful blue glass double-flask balsamarium with two small handles and finely decorated with applied spiral glass trailing. They were used for storing perfumed oils and expensive liquids.
Some trailing missing otherwise in excellent condition with some light earthy surface deposits and a beautiful silvery iridescence.
Provenance: Property of a Mayfair lady: formerly in an important London collection formed since 1965.
