Roman North AfricanTerracotta Oil Lamp With Minerva
Item Description
C. 5th-6th century AD
A nice Roman oil lamp, decorated with helmeted bust of Minerva, goddess of war and wisdom. It has a raised ridge encircling the discus leading down to a canal nozzle. The shoulders are decorated with geometric pattern and it features a lug handle. The lamp stands on a raised ring base with incised concentric circles at the centre.
Small chip to edge of shoulders and base otherwise intact with good detail.
