Roman Oil Lamp With Christogram
C. 4th-5th century AD
An interesting North African terracotta oil lamp decorated with a Christogram to central discus, and concentric circles and an amphora to shoulders. The Chi-Rho Christogram is a religious symbol used as decoration, and is a monogram for Christ’s name, thought to offer protection for the lamp’s owner.
Intact with nice good detail and some light earthy surface deposits.
Provenance: Ex M. O. Collection.
Size: 138mm length
