Roman Silvered Knee Brooch
Item Description
C. 2nd century AD
A nice Roman silvered knee brooch composed of a sharp arched bow terminating small, flat, semi-circular head. This is connected to a perpendicular bar, which holds the original spring and pin. To the back, the fibula features the original catch plate, a rectangular section which extends downwards and curls are the base.
In ancient Greece and in the Roman empire, brooches and fibulae would have been used to fasten garments, like togae or cloaks.
Pin is cracked and slightly bent, otherwise complete with some slight surface deposits.
