Roman Terracotta Figural Jug With Inscription To Base
C. 2nd century AD
A superb example of a Roman figural jug in the form of a female’s head with curly hair and finely carved facial features, with a loop type handle on the back. There is an inscription to base which reads:
Minor surface marks to cheek otherwise fine detail and an equisite piece.
Provenance: Ex Oxford gentleman’s collection. This gentleman acquired a large collection of Roman artefacts over forty years.
