Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp Depicting Gladiators & Maker’s Mark

Item Description

C. 1st century AD

A nice Roman oil lamp depicting two gladiators to central discus within an incised border. Each gladiator wears a helmet and holds a sword and a scutum shield. It has a maker’s mark to base which reads: “AVSII”,  and a voluted nozzle to finish.

Repaired shoulder with good detail.
