Superb Roman Bronze Crossbow Brooch
Item Description
C. 4th century AD
A fine example of a large beautiful Roman bronze crossbow brooch with fine incised linear and hand punched decoration running along the high arched bow, with a knob protruding from both wings and head of the brooch. The rectangular catchplate also has fine incised decoration.
An excellent piece with fine detail complete with pin and pin lock that holds the pin in place, which is rare to find intact. It has a nice green patina with some earthy surface deposits. Slight chip to base edge otherwise intact.
