Medieval Bronze Miniature Horse Shoe of Saint Eligius

C. 14th-15th century

A miniature bronze horse shoe associated with Saint Eligius, a patron of Saint of horses and those who work with them. A legend emerged of Saint Eligius once healing a demon-possessed horse by amputating its hoof, fitting a horseshoe and then miraculously reattaching the horse’s foreleg. He is also a patron saint of goldsmiths, blacksmiths and metalworkers.

Intact with some minor surface marks.
