Egyptian Faience Blue Glazed Shabti
Item Description
C. 1069 – 664 BC – Third Intermediate Period
An Egyptian blue faience shabti with a long beard and wearing a tripartite wig. His arms are crossed, holding a pick in one hand and hoe in the other, with a seed basket over left shoulder.
Shabtis were mummiform funerary figurines, which were placed in ancient Egyptian tombs to act as servants for the deceased in the afterlife. These ‘worker’ Shabtis were often depicted holding tools like hoes and picks for tasks such as farming.
Slight chip to base edge with crude detail and a nice blue glaze.
