Greek Terracotta Canosan Doves
Item Description
C. Late 4th to early 3rd century BC
An interesting pair of hand formed terracotta dove with incised grooves to the wings. In Ancient Greece, the goddess Aphrodite often appears with doves, consequently, the dove became a symbol for love.
Although repaired and beak missing on one dove, it is intact with earthy surface deposits.
Provenance: Private UK Collection, from a deceased estate.
