Large Egyptian Faience Fragment Of Thoth

Item Description

C. 713-332 BC – Late Period

A pale blue/green glazed faience amulet of Thoth depicted as a man with an ibis-head, and was believed to have healing powers. Thoth was the deity of knowledge and writing. Thoth amulets were very popular, often placed on mummies as well as used by the living. Suspension loop to top of head.

Although a fragment it is of a large size with good strong colour and nice detail.
