Tudor-Stuart Period Bronze Crotal Bell or Rumble Bell With Initials

C. 16th-17th century

An interesting bronze crotal or rumble bell with initials to base: “RL”. It is decorated with a fish-scale pattern to the lower hemisphere of the bell,  and a sunburst design on the upper hemisphere.  There were used on horse-drawn vehicles to warn others that one was approaching on country roads. These were hung either on the horse’s collar or on the wooden frame on larger vehicles.

In excellent condition with nice detail.
