ROMAN BRONZE ENAMELLED HORSE BROOCH

C. 2nd century AD
An interesting bronze horse brooch decorated with grooves to the mane and three panels to body recessed for enamel. The horse is scarcer than the horse and rider brooch as they were admired for their speed and beauty. The horse was of great significance in Celtic Religion as it was linked with deities of the sun and warfare.
Although pin and majority of enamel are missing; has good detail.
